The annual match funding campaign returns!

Every day, more families affected by Rett syndrome are reaching out to us – frustrated, exhausted, and struggling to get the support they need. As services in health, education and social care continue to be stretched, the pressure on our families grows.

That’s why we’ve launched More Hands, More Help, More Hope – a vital project to expand our family support team so we can be there for every family who turns to us. With your help, we can provide more timely, specialist advice, advocacy, and emotional support – tailored to the complex needs of those living with Rett syndrome.

Microsoft have announced that support for Windows 10 Pro is ending on 14th Oct 2025. This affects certain older Speech Generating Devices such as eye gaze or tablets.

Tobii Dynavox Devices:
It is possible to upgrade older I-13 and I-16 models (sold between 10/07/2019 and 12/12/2022) from Windows 10 to Windows 10 IoT LTSC which provides Microsoft support until 2032. There will be a charge of £275 for this.

Smartbox Devices:
Since Nov 2023 Grid Pad 12, 15, 10s has been shipped with Windows IOT, a version of Windows 10 that remains supported until 2032. Current generation Grid Pads are of course Windows 11. Grid Pads manufactured earlier than November 2023 will need to apply the same upgrade to Windows 10 IoT. For devices that are still under warranty, this can be done free of charge. Where warranties have expired, there is a charge of £160.

Regarding charges, if your device is hub funded, the hub should pay for the upgrade. If it is privately funded then it is at your own expense.

If your device is older and therefore cannot be upgraded to Windows 10 IoT, it will of course still continue to work as normal. The software however will no longer be supported and you will not be able to run any updates.

These sessions will be facilitated by members of our CommEd Support Team, with activities and topics steered by the interests of the group!

There is no need for a formal communication system to be in place, any form of communication can be used (e.g. no tech, paper-based, eye gaze device). And there is absolutely no pressure or requirement to speak up - you can just come along and listen.

This is open to anybody over the age of 18 with Rett syndrome. Each person with Rett syndrome needs to be accompanied by a supporter.
