If you are not familiar with InteRett then it is worth having a look at their web site. Some great resources which we have featured on our web site too about scoliosis and nutrition but also a searchable database where you can look at different Rett related problems by genotype or mutation.
This can be really useful when you are looking for supporting evidence with regard to the complexities of Rett syndrome and how your son/daughter may be affected or is more likely to develop difficulties in that area.
They are currently pulling together some findings from research into sleep and breathing problems in Rett syndrome. The preliminary results show that most people with Rett syndrome are affected in some way but certain genotypes show a higher prevalence of breath holding. With regard to sleep, people with Rett syndrome do have more problems than the wider population with getting to sleep, staying asleep and day time sleeping is common. No surprises there many of you will say but they are also looking at what helps so may be worth keeping an eye on how this develops.
